Why our season brochure belongs on your nightstand
As a geriatric millennial, I often feel nostalgic for the the sheer delight of receiving birthday cards from far-flung cousins, chain letters feverishly copied in rainbow ink, paper birthday invitations with a tear-off RSVP strip, and the serendipitous note from the boy you met on vacation landing in the mailbox on a random Thursday. Being on the receiving end of a tangible piece of someone else’s thoughtful and intentional outreach is singularly life-affirming, and it makes my heart ache a little to look at the drastic decline in USPS delivery rates over the past two decades. No wonder we feel so little joy!
That is why, even though I’m using the immediacy of email to communicate today (ironic, I know!), I am checking in from PPI’s office to ask: Did you receive our gorgeous season brochure in the mail this week? If yes, I hope it brought you the same rush of endorphins that an airmail envelope back in 1999 would have had on my psyche. (Sheer bliss.) If no, I am inviting you to reply to me, personally, with your postal address. We’d love to send you one, for it’s not just a brightly colored booklet to be flung in the recycling with last week’s junk mail. It’s a piece of uplifting art and a token of personal connection that belongs on your nightstand!
Yes, PPI’s 2026-2027 season brochure (like all our paper collateral) was carefully and studiously crafted to communicate not only our 2026-2027 programming, but also PPI’s deeply held ethos and raison d’être. We are very serious about our music, but also serious about not taking ourselves too seriously. We want your interactions with us to be the feel-good parts of your day/week/month, our musicians to inspire and awe you, and our diligent celebration of variety and individualism to make you marvel at the life force contained in one instrument.
Our artistic curator? A brilliant and multi-faceted mensch who is not only an astonishing musical storyteller, but who also bakes for pleasure and loves to travel off the grid.
Our pianists? A wondrous blend of virtuosi who also happen to be incredibly well-read, immersed in all the arts (even the art of fixing cars), deeply involved in advocacy issues, committed to small pleasures and ultimately delightful human beings.
Page through our brochure, then read it word-for-word. Chuckle at the endlessly inventive Patrick Mavros’s fun cartoon versions of all of us, ponder the vast and varied repertory to be played and then pick the concerts you want to attend (if not the whole series!). Then set the brochure somewhere safe, for easy referencing when you need a reason to smile. I personally recommend leaving it open at this page:
PPI’s 2026–2027 season is your personal pick-me-up – both on paper and in person!
