Boundless and Timeless: The two ends of the dog bone!

Months ago, while brainstorming possible names for PPI’s new bipartite recital structure, the concept “Timeless” came up to describe music that stays relevant, keeps inspiring, never ages. The image that immediately sprung to my mind, was this one: A curious little terrier peering into the horn of a gramophone, once iconically adorning The Gramophone Company’s records, later belonging to EMI.

Still thinking of dogs, it was no surprise that when “Boundless” was suggested as the flipside of the “Timeless” coin, my imagination went straight to my own Jack Russell terrier, Moses, streaking down the beach, blazing energy and single-minded attention on whatever ball, stick or seagull he fixed in his sights. That, I thought, is boundless: No fear, no inhibition, no holding back. Just wholehearted energy, thrown into a passionate, full-bodied embrace of the moment.

And that, in essence, is exactly what our new “Boundless” series is about. We’re not trying to sell you Beethoven by means of the Beach Boys, or hoping to lure you to the concert hall by offering “light” music as a gateway drug. We’re expanding our own musical palates, and hopefully yours, by recognizing that the emotional power of the piano doesn’t belong to any one genre.

We want your experiences listening to the piano to be varied, unconstrained and expansive, and our strategy for getting you there is to throw open the gate to the dog park’s enclosure (metaphorically in keeping with the puppy energy). By bringing you Anderson & Roe and Charlie Albright this season (and already thinking way out-of-the-box for 2026/2027), we are boldly saying: It doesn’t have to have a traditional genre definition to be brilliant. It simply is Boundless.

And what’s Boundless can also be Timeless! When Evren Ozel opens our 2025/2026 season on September 7th, we guarantee you energy, authenticity and a demeanor that speaks of great talent, but also of great curiousity, respect and humility. Despite his huge career success at The Cliburn in June, Evren oozes music, not ego. This quality, of being a vehicle rather than an object of attention, is becoming rare in the real world but sits at the heart of what PPI is all about.

Come join us, tails wagging, tongues panting, paws darting. We’re in it, wholeheartedly.
