Portland Piano International Presents Anderson & Roe Piano Duo, October 14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Part of PPI’s Boundless Series: two pianos, four hands, one mind. The Emmy-nominated Anderson & Roe light up a 21st-century recital of precision and connection—Tuesday, October 14, 7:30 PM, PSU’s Lincoln Performance Hall.

PORTLAND, OR — Portland Piano International (PPI) welcomes the Anderson & Roe Piano Duo for a one-night-only recital on Tuesday, October 14 at 7:30 PM at PSU’s Lincoln Performance Hall. Celebrated as “the most dynamic duo of this generation” (San Francisco Classical Voice), “rock stars of the classical music world” (Miami Herald), and “the very model of complete 21st-century musicians” (The Washington Post), Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe have set the pace for what a piano duo can be now: ferociously precise, irresistibly imaginative, and built for live connection.

What distinguishes Anderson & Roe in today’s landscape is not only how flawlessly they play together, but how vividly they think together. Two Juilliard-trained artists with a unified musical mind, they’ve created a body of work that reaches far beyond the stage—Emmy®-nominated, self-produced films with millions of views; albums that have spent weeks atop the Billboard classical charts; and global broadcasts, including hosting duties for the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. Their audience isn’t a niche; it’s a community that spans first-timers and connoisseurs, drawn by performances where ideas snap into focus and the air seems to change from the first phrase.

Their concerts feel like living, breathing journeys—cornerstones of the piano repertoire threaded with their own re-imaginings and crafted storytelling. They shape arcs: tension and release; intimacy and blaze; familiar sound worlds reframed so we hear them anew. Onstage commentary is warm and lucid, never showy, and their ensemble moves like choreography—four hands sharing a single intention. For listeners in Portland, that means a night of virtuosity and discovery in equal measure, where the thrill lies not in spectacle alone but in the clarity of what the music is saying.

This appearance inaugurates PPI’s new Boundless Series—welcoming the simply curious alongside seasoned ears and meeting audiences where they are. In the intimacy of Lincoln Performance Hall, every color reads, every gesture lands, and the conversation between two artists becomes a conversation with you. If you’ve been waiting for the perfect entry point—or the next jolt of inspiration—this is it.

PORTLAND PIANO INTERNATIONAL has presented more than 220 artists in recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest pianists in the world of music have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital. Portland Piano International is a vital part of Portland's quality cultural life and it has consistently garnered praise from both the local and national media, heralded a "consistently brilliant Piano Recital Series" (Willamette Week) and "one of this city's musical treasures" (The Oregonian).
