ABOUT DARRELL GRANT

Since the release of his debut album Black Art one of the New York Times' top ten jazz CDs of 1994, Darrell Grant has built an international reputation as a pianist, composer, and educator who seamlessly traverses the idioms of music he loves. From receiving wide acclaim for his second album, The New Bop, Grant brought his trio to national attention by performing at the Havana Jazz Festival. Dedicating its themes of hope, community and place, Grant's compositions include Step By Step, the River Began, Suite Turrentine, In With Lights On, The Territory, which explores Oregon's past, present and possible future. Darrell Grant received the 2018 Governor's Arts Award for The Territory. In Oregon, he has been named Portland Jazz Hero by the Jazz Journalist Association, received a Northwest Regional Emmy, and received MAP Fund, Cowell Fund, and NEA Composer & Fund Writer grants to complete these recordings.
