FOCUS ON ARTISTRY

With Hans Boepple, July 14

Dr. Hans Boepple's students have won over one hundred awards in state, national and international competitions. In this day-long workshop he will present a lecture and lead master classes focusing on the elements that lead to artistry at the piano.  Four students will be selected to participate in the classes.

Lecture: The Seven Basic Needs of All Pianists

"I think of my students in the same way as I think of myself when I practice. If I work for a week and get nothing done, I can lose sleep over that.  Even with a little progress, if you multiply it by 50 weeks, you get a lot of change in a year." What are the basic needs of pianists that, when addressed, can produce real change in our playing?

Master Class Performers

Focus on Artistry will be limited to 4 performers, primarily focused on advanced repertoire. Interested participants should request an application form by calling 503.228.1388, downloading a pdf form, or e-mailing lori@portlandpiano.org. The fee for participating in the master classes is $60. Applicants will be required to submit an application form and a recording of their playing, including at least two pieces that they plan to perform in the class. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than April 30. Applicants will be notified by May 15 if they are accepted into the workshop.
