AN EXHIBIT BY STUDENTS IN THE SABIN ART PROJECT

The cover art on this year's printed festival brochure was created by students from the Sabin Art Project and is part of an exhibit that will be on display in Cheatham Hall throughout the Festival week. All artwork is for sale and proceeds benefit the Sabin Art Project. Under the direction of Chris Lamp, the Sabin Art Project includes students from Sabin Elementary School (grades pre-K through 7) and the three-year old ACCESS program (grades 1-8). The ACCESS program functions as a separate school within a school on the Sabin campus and includes students who have tested in core subjects at the 99% level. Art work for this project was created by seventh-grade students from both Sabin Elementary School and the ACCESS program (see details below).

Sabin Art Project students participating in the piano art project:

  • Artists include Li Xiao Chun, who came to the United States at age nine from Dongguan, China; Marisa Polonsky, who dances for the Oregon Ballet Theater; and Sandra Seppalainen, who is a naturalized citizen of Finland and spends every summer in her homeland. Monique Russell has attended Sabin since preschool. Jonathon Davidson, Forrest Ashmore, Tommy Selt, and Judy Lee all attend the ACCESS program.Tommy Selt is a native Oregonian who loves to play a variety of musical instruments in his spare time as well as draw and paint. Forrest Ashmore loves art and math, and from the early age of five has viewed his work in a three-dimensional field — it seems his two loves are somewhat interrelated. Jonathon Davidson’s second most-liked pastime is math. His first passion and love is school itself. Monique Russell wants to be a professional photographer when she grows up. Until then she produces exquisite art with almost any media available. Judy Lee was born in the Republic of Korea and enjoys sharing her culture and language as she grows into an all-American teenager.

Sabin Art Project students will be available from 12:15 to 1:15 pm on Saturday, July 19, during the Festival Luncheon, to sign copies of their art.
